When I created the original painting, it took me a few months off and on, mostly because I was not yet very confident in my skills as a painter. I used to think of myself mostly as an illustrator, even though I work with paint a fair amount. Eventually, though, after I got past the weird part of putting down flat colors and building from there, it turned into something that I am still proud of to this day. I definitely have a special place in my heart for this piece, especially as it pertains to finding joy in my identity as a queer person. I hope this piece inspires joy within you too!!
